Typical applications of those vibration exciters are modal tests of buildings, bridges and other large structures.

Accelerometer calibration and mounting effect

Transducer is a device that converts signal to another mostly to electrical signal. When a transducer being used in some specific purposes, it can be called as a “sensor”. A type of transducer that being used mostly for vibration measurement is an “Accelerometer” which is illustrated in the picture below.

Accelerometer

Mounting conditions of a transducer to the test object are one of the most significant factors that can affect the vibration result. Different mounting makes different frequency response or that creating resonance frequency.

Examples of sensor mounting type

Accelerometer sensor mounting

The mounting of sensor to the surface of the test object is an important factor to be concerned. Choosing appropriate mounting type will help to improve the accuracy of the measurement. The mounting surface should be flat smooth surface. There shouldn’t be elasticity between the surface and the sensor. Handheld type may be used with survey method, but the measurement range or filtering should be considering to not exceed at 1000 Hz.
