Why microphone calibration matters
Measurement microphones are precision instruments. To ensure accurate sound measurements, their responses must be compared against a traceable reference and adjusted when necessary. Condenser microphones (often used in sound level meters) can drift due to aging or environmental conditions. Regular calibration ensures that the frequency response and sensitivity remain within specification.
Our calibration capabilities
ALT’s laboratory calibrates microphones and pre‑amplifiers from all brands. We follow IEC 61094-1/-4 standards for laboratory and working‑standard microphones and use reciprocity calibration to determine absolute sensitivity. Each calibration includes:
- Verification of sensitivity and frequency response across the required bandwidth (e.g. 20 Hz–20 kHz for working‑standard microphones).
- Detailed documentation of measurement uncertainty and traceability to national standards.
- Adjustment (where possible) to correct deviations and ensure compliance with ISO 17025 requirements.
Service coverage
We accept microphones and pre‑amplifiers from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries. Instruments can be shipped to our Bangkok laboratory and returned with accredited certificates. For large fleets of microphones we can arrange periodic calibration contracts.
