What is impedance tube testing?
An impedance tube (Kundt’s tube) is used to measure the sound absorption coefficient and acoustic impedance of small material samples. This method is ideal when large samples are impractical or when comparing multiple prototypes. It follows ASTM E1050 and ISO 10534‑2 standards.
Our capabilities
ALT’s laboratory is equipped with a PLACID Instruments impedance tube. We can measure:
- Normal incidence absorption coefficient across a wide frequency range.
- Acoustic resistance and reactance (complex impedance).
- Performance of materials such as foams, fibrous insulation, composites and perforated panels.
Benefits
Impedance tube testing provides quick, repeatable results and helps manufacturers optimise material thicknesses and surface treatments. Results can be combined with reverberation‑room data for a complete acoustic profile.
Serving Southeast Asia
Manufacturers and researchers across Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Myanmar can send small samples to our laboratory. We provide fast turnaround and detailed reports.
